Friday Finds - Etsy Edition

I LOVE Etsy. I could spend hours and hours looking at all the amazing shops, and I don't think I would ever get bored. Just tired, or hungry. :) Here are some of my favorite items from some of my favorite sellers.

Troy DeRose has some AMAZING prints. I really love this one.

Rabbit Rabbit Softies are the absolute CUTEST! My son agrees. :)

I NEED this mini bling dot necklace from Seven Ply. It's made from a recycled skate deck!

If I ever get an Iphone, you bet I'll be getting this awesome pop tart case from Cb Sew!

I've had this beauty on my favorites list for quite awhile now. By Uncommon. Their shop is filled with such cool things.

And, I'll gladly take this cute shirt from maryink!

To see more of my etsy favorites, feel free to browse my extensive list! Found right here.

Happy Friday! :)

Breathe

photo found here

Things have been a little crazy around these parts lately. Every day goes by so.incredibly.quickly. I haven't had time to sew anything in probably 2 weeks. That stack of dishes really needs to be washed. Those clothes really need to be taken out of the dryer. I REALLY still need to finish painting the ceiling in the bathroom. Sigh. I know that things won't be this crazy forever, and my children will grow up and be more independent as time goes on.. So I'm trying to just sit back when I can, and savor this time. Even though there are a million things to do, I don't want to be so busy that I miss out on the little things. Like my kids sitting and playing in the living room together. So simple, but really special. They will never go back to this age again. I have to remind myself of that often. Especially when my daughter is screaming her head off for an hour straight because she is exhausted and teething. I know this will pass. My son is 4 now, and it seems like only yesterday he himself was a baby, teething and learning to grab things, learning to eat, and so on. And I feel like with him, I was always anticipating the next step. When will he learn to crawl? When will he learn to walk? When will he learn to run? I don't want to do that this time. I'm not in a hurry anymore. And its hard, but I'm willing to put my dreams on hold (my shop, specifically) to be completely present for my two sweet children. I love them so very much and want to do the best I can for them, in everything. I want to be a great mother like my mother was, and is to me.

Life is full, I am happy, and I am learning to be content. :)

Friday Finds - Kiddo Birthday Edition

Happy Friday! This list is a week late technically, my sons birthday was last Friday. He had such a fun one this year. He is very blessed to have so many great family members who are generous and kind. :)

On to the finds!

This plate is adorable. I think my Mom would really like it too. :)

I snagged this cupcake kit at UO for my daughters first birthday-- we're halfway there, yikes!

This shirt is too cute. I want to get the boys version.

I LOVE these invitations. Blabla makes the cutest stuff.

These poms are so festive and pretty.

Well I better run so I can get some sleep, we're taking a trip to IKEA tomorrow- so excited! Have a fantastic weekend!

6 Confessions

I found this fun list via LA/Freckled Nest and had to participate. :) It's a list as titled. Confessions. Here are mine.

1. I used to be a punk rocker. I also started a band with my friends. I played bass and we were The Insolents. I had to share pictures. These are in my more "toned down" days (I didn't have huge liberty spikes or a mohawk anymore- must find those pictures!).

We played shows, hung out with friends, traveled, had fun. I met my husband through a mutual friend. I had heard stories about him, because he used to be a punk rocker too. Mostly I heard how "amazing" his mohawk and his band were. Hehe. I quit the band when I became pregnant with our son. I realized it was time to grow up. I wanted the family life. Am I a sell out? Sure. But I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

2. I almost NEVER wear socks. I can't stand them. My family is always pointing out how "less than clean" the bottom of my feet are. lol. I also love to drive/be a passenger with bare feet. I totally put my feet up on the dash, just like the girl in the picture below. :)

3. I have only had my hair cut professionally ONCE in the past 8 years. I was never happy when I'd go to a salon. The stylists would never listen to what I wanted, and I'd walk out HATING my hair. So I just started cutting my own. Then I started cutting all my friends hair. :)

4. I am more than a little bit obsessed with The Office (US). I have seen every. single. episode. :) (there's a new one tomorrow night-- ee!) I can also reference almost ANYTHING to the Office. Seriously, try me.

5. I could eat mexican food every day. Enough said.

6. I secretly (well, not so secretly now) want to be a derby girl. hehe. :) Whip It didn't help that at all.

So there you go. My 6 confessions. Hope you enjoyed!

Feel free to link if you participate as well. Have an awesome day!

Come on Spring

Sorry for the absence! Last weekend was my son's birthday and big birthday party, so I was busy planning it all. And then I got sick. I am still recovering, but wanted to pop in really quick to share some images that make me excited for spring to come!

Its been sunny. The snow has been melting and grass is starting to peek through.. And that makes me really happy. :)

I can't wait to go outside with my kids and breathe in the fresh cool air. Take walks to the park, drive out to the lake, watch the sunsets on our front step, watch the trees in our neighborhood bloom. I love springtime and the fresh new beginning it brings.

Please come soon spring. I'm anxiously waiting for you.

P.S. Hope your Valentine's Day was great!

my morning coffee

Good morning. :) I had a good night's sleep, but still am a bit tired due to my daughter screaming the entire night before (she has an ear infection :(, poor baby). I think I got 2 hours of sleep that night.

I rarely have coffee or a lot of caffiene because I am nursing, and I really miss drinking coffee everyday. Today I think I need some extra energy, so I'm having one cup.

I'm really enjoying it and felt inspired to share some of my favorite caffinated items, drinkable or not! :)

This shirt is amazing! I wish it wasn't sold out.

This coffee is too good for words. You HAVE to try it if you haven't.

This print is so cute. I want it in my kitchen!

I love me some Pike Place! It's described as smooth and bold. Oh Yes. :)

I think I need one of these cozies. I love scooters, I love coffee. Perfect!

I don't use a coffee press, but if I had this one, I think I would!

I'm off to finish my coffee and play with the kiddos!

What is your favorite kind of coffee?

Shop Update

Just checking in to say that I've added a few new pouches to the shop! More to come in the next few days as well.

I am really excited about my newest creation, The Bunting Pouch.

I think it is a great reminder to celebrate each day! I think buntings are so charming. I made one for my son's room, and want to create one for my daughter's space as well. :)

Hope your week is going great. I have lots of party planning to do, my son's 4th birthday party is this Saturday. I can hardly believe it.

Time flies, huh? The older I get, the faster it seems to go.

Friday Finds

This list is chemistry inspired. And somewhat Valentines Day inspired as well. :) I was horrible at all of my science classes in school except for chemistry, for some reason. Which I'll never understand... Anywho, on to the finds!

Adventures in Baking

So I've been snowed in for the past few days, with the hubby out of town. There was almost a foot of snow/ice in our driveway, and when I saw our neighbors all getting stuck trying to get in and out of their driveways.. I decided to stay put. Unfortunately I wanted something sweet (I have a major sweet tooth). And we had nada. I had things on hand to make cupcakes short of one thing: eggs. I am ALWAYS out of eggs when I want to bake. (A few weeks back I used Pepsi to replace them in a recipe! It worked, but still. Note to self: buy more eggs)

So, thinking back to my vegan days.. I know vegan cupcake recipes are out there. Even though I never baked any while I was a vegan, oddly enough. I did a search and found one without any weird extras (like vinegar or cream of tartar- yuck! ) Then I remembered that Natalie, from Bake and Destroy is always talking about Billy's Vanilla Vanilla cupcakes. I found the Billy's Vanilla Buttercream recipe via Martha, and it seemed simple enough.

So vanilla cupcakes it was! Or at least I thought....

Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you... Drum roll please...

Yes you read that right. Sugar Cookie Cupcakes. Um, yum!

These are hubby approved. He said they taste just like his favorite- Lofthouse. And I agree. :)

For the cupcakes you need:

1 1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3 cups all purpose flour
1 T. baking powder
3/4 t. salt
2 cups milk (any)
1 T. and 1 t. vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350. In one bowl, mix butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. In another bowl sift dry ingredients. Measure milk. Add milk, then dry ingredients, in alternating batches to the butter/sugar mixture being sure to beat well with each addition. Then add the vanilla, and beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Batter will be thick. Line cupcake pan with liners, fill 3/4 full. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Makes 24. (Adapted from The Vegan Chef)

For the Billy's Vanilla Buttercream :

1 cup unsalted butter, room temp.
6-8 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cream butter until smooth and creamy in a bowl with an electric mixer, about 2 to 3 minutes. With mixer on low speed, add 6 cups sugar, milk, and vanilla; mix until light and fluffy. If necessary, gradually add remaining 2 cups sugar to reach desired consistency.

Enjoy! These are really yummy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE cupcakes. You can see my obsession in how many pouches I make with cupcake fabric! Check out the shop. :)

P.S. Isn't it nice when something you set out to make turns into something you didn't expect AND is amazing?

Design Inspiration

So, my baby girl is six months old. And she sleeps in my and my husbands room with us. She has her own part of the room, but I haven't really decorated it. I want to take the time to do this very soon. Here are some inspiring items/images found on etsy that make me want to start right away!

For nursery decor, I like it simple. :) I will share more photos later when I finally decorate!

First Blog Post!

So it's my very first post, and I've been wanting to write a blog for a reeeeally long time now. Almost 2 years. So here I am (internet) world! :) I hope to make this page look prettier as time goes by. If you are happening to read this, welcome! I guess I'll do a short bio with a picture and a couple of links. Sound okay? Awesome. :)

I'm Jenna, or Jen, I like when people call me Jen. I'm married to an extremely gifted artist, his work is amazing. You can check it out here. I will definitely be talking much more about him, so get used to that. :) We also have 2 amazing kiddos, who are the cutest little ones around... But I have to say from the start I'm not comfortable with posting pictures of them. More on that later.

I have an etsy shop, We Three Trees. I make novelty pouches and makeup bags, bows, and am currently working on a couple of new creations to add to the shop. I LOVE to sew and create. When I am creating, all is right with the world.

I want this blog to be filled with inspiration, tutorials, shop updates, and just pretty things in general. I'm excited to start this! Thanks for reading and sharing in my dream.

You're awesome.
